![]() May 2000My name is Alex. I'm a book addict. I used to think, one, two, only three new books and I could stop. It is not as simple as all that. Compact discs, I can live without. Musically inclined as I am, I can walk into HMV or Sams or Sunrise or Tower and not come out with a CD. I can resist the urge. However, I enter a book store, and my knees begin to shake. I pick up books randomly, in subject which have no interest for me. I smell the pages. I feel the texture of the paper between my fingertips (though carefully, to avoid paper cuts).
Yes, I may have 300 CDs. And my school doesn't help matters, either. They have a thing each month where surplus donated books are sold off. At one or two dollars a volume. So, with that feeding my addiction, it is little wonder that I went into Coles, a local bookstore, looking for a wedding gift and walked out with an encyclopedia. At least the price was good...
