A Beggar At The Table

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

No, not to you, the readers, but to my beloved Ottawa Senators, who have sadly bowed out of the playoffs. They put up a valiant effort but were repelled at the last minute by a Penguins team who simply wanted it more.

Can’t wait for training camp in September…

Whew, when I saw the post title I thought you were bowing out of blogging, Alex.
Now, enlighten this ‘down under’ lad, is this ice hockey or Canadian football were talkin’?

Ice Hockey. In Canada, it nearly takes on a religious dimension when it comes to the National Hockey League playoffs.

Ah yes, I guess there’s not much else to do in the northern winter months, right? Australians know all about the religious dimension to sport, but they usually reserve their devotion for football, which down here means Australian Rules, and the two forms of rugby, depending on which part of the country you live in.

Alex, I’m intrigued as to why the typical British games, cricket, rugby and soccer, aren’t national obsessions in Canada as they are here? Does the proximity to the USA have something to do with it?
